The Russian River Wine Road is an organization of wineries and lodging establishments in the six Sonoma County wine-growing appelations – Dry Creek Valley, Russian River Valley, Green Valley, Chalk Hill, Knights Valley, and Alexander Valley – all of which are influenced by the Russian River and its tributary creeks. Because of many microclimates throughout the Russian River area, most grape varieties can flourish in all six appelations. In general, warmer areas in the north are best for Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc, Zinfandel and Petite Sirah. Cooler areas along the River are noted for Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Riesling, Chenin Blanc and Gewurtztraminer. As you use the map below to travel the Russian River “wine roads”, be sure to sample the wine varietals for which the region is noted.
