Is adding extra sugar really an necessary process for making wine at home?
Choosen answer:
You would need to add more sugar if you are using table grapes or other fruit. Grapes traditionally used in making wine have a LOT more natural sugar. So if you have vinifera grapes at the appropriate ripeness, no you would not need to. But, if using non-vinifera grapes, you do need more sugar.
Sugar reacts with the yeast to create the ethanol we know and love.

its kind of complicated… probly whether you want some real “quality wine” you should clasp back on the unnatural sugar, merely if your trying to get a little kick out of it, the other guy is correct within saying fructose+yeast = sweetener its of late how it works. anyway if your sounding for the “correct” answer this probably is not the best place to obtain it.

When making homebrew wine, is there a way to tell how good my wine is gong to be without waiting 1 1/2 years?

I’m very interested in wine making, my only worry is that I won’t know how good a specific wine I’ve made tastes for a year and a half and that in the meantime I will be making very sub par wine for almost a year and will thus have to suffer through bad wine for the next few years. Is there a way to find out before it is finished aging?
